Cut Meutia Traditional House, Acehnese Traditional Architecture, Cultural HeritageAbstract
The Cut Meutia Traditional House is one of Aceh's architectural heritage buildings, featuring ornaments that function not only as decorative elements but also as representations of cultural values. This study aims to identify the forms and types of ornaments, analyze the philosophical meaning of each motif, and explain their relationship with the cultural values and characteristics of Acehnese traditional architecture. The study draws on the concept of architectural ornament and a semiotic approach to interpret the symbolic meanings embedded in the ornaments. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, documentation, interviews with traditional community leaders, and a literature review. The findings indicate that the ornaments are concentrated on the roof and wall sections of the building, featuring various motifs symbolizing fertility, prosperity, unity, education, loyalty, peace, and the social life of the Acehnese community. The study concludes that these ornaments serve not merely as decorative features but also as expressions of cultural identity and philosophical values that should be preserved as an integral part of Aceh's traditional architectural heritage.
