Author Guidelines
International Literature of Muslim Understanding (ILMU)
 

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished manuscripts to International Literature of Muslim Understanding (ILMU). The journal publishes scholarly works related to Islamic studies and Muslim societies and accepts manuscripts written in English only.

Submitted manuscripts must fall within the journal’s scope, demonstrate academic quality, and offer a clear contribution to the field.

All eligible manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind review process.
Access
Open Access
Published articles are freely accessible to readers worldwide.

DOC / DOCX
Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
Submission Requirements
General Requirements
  • The manuscript must be original and not previously published.
  • The manuscript must not be under review by another journal or publisher.
  • The manuscript must be relevant to the focus and scope of ILMU.
  • The manuscript must be written in academic English and carefully proofread.
  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of content, references, quotations, and data.
  • All submissions must follow the journal template and formatting requirements.
Types of Manuscripts
Research Article
Original research presenting findings, analysis, and scholarly contribution.
Review Article
Critical and analytical review of important themes, debates, or developments in the field.
Textual Study
Scholarly studies focusing on Islamic texts, manuscripts, turath, Qur’an, Hadith, and interpretation.
Manuscript Length

Manuscripts should generally be between 5,000 and 8,000 words, including notes and references. Longer manuscripts may be considered if they provide strong scholarly value and remain relevant to the journal’s scope.

Manuscript Structure
1. Title
Concise, informative, and relevant to the article content.
2. Author Information
Full name, institutional affiliation, email address, and ORCID ID (if available).
3. Abstract
Approximately 150–250 words summarizing the purpose, method, and main findings.
4. Keywords
Provide 3–5 keywords representing the core themes of the article.
5. Introduction
Present the background, research problem, objectives, and significance of the study.
6. Main Discussion / Method / Analysis
Organize the article logically according to the nature of the study.
7. Conclusion
Summarize key findings and highlight the contribution of the study.
8. References
Include only sources cited in the manuscript.
Citation and References

Authors should ensure consistency and accuracy in citation and reference formatting. The journal recommends using a recognized reference manager such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.

Manuscripts should use a consistent academic citation style in accordance with the journal template. Authors are strongly encouraged to use recent, relevant, and authoritative scholarly sources.

Publication Ethics
  • Authors must avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and duplicate submission.
  • All quotations, paraphrases, and borrowed ideas must be properly cited.
  • Authors must disclose any conflict of interest, if applicable.
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted materials when necessary.
Submission Process
  1. Prepare the manuscript in accordance with the journal template.
  2. Register or log in to the journal’s OJS system.
  3. Upload the manuscript and complete all required metadata.
  4. Wait for editorial screening and peer review notification.
  5. Revise the manuscript if requested by the editor or reviewers.
Review and Revision

Every manuscript that passes the initial editorial screening will be sent to reviewers through a double-blind peer review process.

Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts based on editorial and reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts should be resubmitted within the period determined by the editorial team.
