International Literature of Muslim Understanding (ILMU) is a double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access international journal published by PT. Bingkai Media Advestama. The journal is published biannually in June and December and provides a scholarly platform for the publication of original research articles, review articles, and textual studies related to Islam and Muslim societies.

ILMU focuses on the dynamic relationship between classical Islamic intellectual traditions and contemporary developments in Muslim life. It promotes rigorous, multidisciplinary, and internationally relevant scholarship that contributes to a deeper understanding of Islamic thought, texts, institutions, education, history, and social realities.

Islamic Thought, Philosophy, and Theology
Studies on Islamic intellectual traditions, kalam, philosophical discourse, ethics, spirituality, and contemporary interpretations of Islamic thought.
Scope 02
Textual Studies: Qur’an, Hadith, and Turath
Research on the Qur’an, Hadith, tafsir, classical Islamic texts, manuscripts, philology, and related textual traditions in Islam.
Scope 03
Islamic Education and Pedagogy
Topics related to Islamic educational theory, curriculum, pedagogy, learning practices, institutions, and educational transformation in Muslim contexts.
Scope 04
Islamic Law (Sharia) and Institutions
Studies on Islamic law, legal reasoning, fatwa, courts, social institutions, governance, and the implementation of Sharia in diverse Muslim societies.
Scope 05
Muslim Societies, Culture, and Historical Dynamics
Research addressing social life, cultural practices, identity, historical change, and contemporary issues affecting Muslim communities across local, national, and global settings.

ILMU accepts manuscripts written in English only and welcomes contributions that offer original, critical, and internationally relevant perspectives on Islam and Muslim understanding.
Aim of the Journal

ILMU aims to foster multidisciplinary academic dialogue and to enrich international scholarship on Islam by publishing high-quality studies that are academically rigorous, relevant to contemporary debates, and accessible to the global scholarly community through open access publication.

Submission Policy: The journal publishes original and unpublished works that fit the journal’s focus and scope. Manuscripts must demonstrate scholarly relevance, methodological clarity, and contribution to the study of Islam and Muslim societies.
